The Benefits of Outsourcing Web Design

Outsourcing is a tried and tested way of cutting costs and increasing capacity without losing out on quality. With the continuation of broadband internet being rolled out worldwide, it no longer matters whether your workers are in the same building or thousands of miles away as communication can be close to instant. This article looks at the benefits of outsourcing web design.

1. Lower Costs

Western countries such as England and America have a much higher cost of living; everything from electricity to housing comes at a premium compared to most other countries around the world. Due to this, wages are generally higher and it becomes harder to increase profit margins without looking overseas.

Countries such as China and India have long been recognised as a great place to outsource web design due to the fact that there is a motivated, capable workforce with wages that are significantly lower. Often people worry about a sweatshop type environment, but that really isn’t the case when it comes to people working in IT in these countries. Living costs are much lower, and the wages given allow for a comfortable living wage in these countries.

It’s not just with employment where money is saved. Overheads in general are much lower, things such as office space, electricity and equipment are significantly lower and this cost savings are often passed onto the client.

2. Increased Capacity at Short Notice

Another great aspect of outsourcing web design is that you can adapt your capacity as your business fluctuates. Outsourcing companies can range in size from a small team of a few people to a large company with dozens of teams at their disposal. This allows them to offer a unique service – the ability to hire out teams of people at short notice, and obviously gives you the opportunity to do the same for a rush job, or the occasional job that requires a few extra people.

It is possible to keep a team or retainer so that if you are expecting an influx of work in the future, you can have guaranteed capacity at your disposal. One more benefit of this is that you don’t have to worry about hiring and firing, purchasing equipment and dealing with all the issues that usual employment requires.

3. Specialisation

Often outsourcing companies will specialise in one or two areas of expertise. This is a great benefit to you if your company is not knowledgeable about a certain aspect of a clients brief. For example, you may be offering iPhone app development but want to offer a client the full package of iPhone app plus website. By outsourcing to a knowledgeable web company overseas, you can feel safe in the knowledge that a product you can’t deliver internally can still be delivered on time, on budget and at a high quality.
